Roughly fifty vehicles have been covered with what seems to be human bodily fluid in the German city of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, as reported by police.
Automobiles, exterior walls and mailboxes were defaced, in some cases with Nazi symbols, they announced in a official communication.
Police say they were alerted during the night on Wednesday night, when a man noticed that a car in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been marked with a reddish liquid.
The fluid had been placed in the shape of a Nazi symbol, they stated.
Police then discovered multiple other marked cars and building exteriors in the surrounding area.
These symbols are prohibited in Germany under regulations banning the public exhibition of Nazi symbols.
Law enforcement state initial examinations show the fluid was probably human blood.
"At present there remains no lead as to its origin; investigators are presently not cognizant of any injuries in connection with the event," they stated.
Local authorities stated they were attempting "to solve the case" and have appealed to the public for details.
A high-ranking official said the attack made him without words and had to be solved promptly.
"This event strikes at the very heart of Hanau and reawakens the trauma of the far-right violent incident in 2020," he stated on a platform, mentioning the killing of nine people by a shooter aiming at people of migrant background in February 2020.
